Troop Hall and Accommodation Huts This present up to date Troop Hall has a rather varied history. The hall was originally situated at the Naval Base at Williamstown, from where it was bought by the South Werribee Scout Troop, and moved to that locality, where it was used as a Scout Hall until that formation disbanded. “Boss” Hurst later purchased the hall and erected it in the centre of the camp, where it stood for at least seven years, falling into disrepair and, exposed to vandalism. It was subsequently moved to its present site, and was almost completely rebuilt.
Accommodation Huts The first three buildings have been used for many years and were built by A. E. Rookes. A forth was unlucky enough to be shifted up the “Hill” only to be burnt by the Ash Wednesday Bush Fires in 1983. The newest; fourth accommodation hut: was built by “Bob” Moodie and made possible by the Estate of the late “Jim Money”. There are 4 huts that can sleep 12 people each, in bunk style accommodation. Separate toilet and shower facilities. |
A fully equipped kitchen, a dining room, toilets and a bunkroom were added, in 1963, and later in 1986 the Adult Training and Development Centre was erected, making the Troop Hall the mecca of Leader Training for the Geelong Region Scout Association. The Troop Hall is self-contained, including a commercial kitchen (no dishwasher), dining area, open hall with open fire or wood heater. Excellent facility for a training venue. Toilet for people with disabilities. Attached is a bunkroom that sleeps 6.
